If you're newish to it DON'T spend a fortune on a top end board. It's the worst thing you can do. They are far less flexible and forgiving and not suited to a beginner. Simply put an expensive board will mean you spend far more time on your ass until you get above good intermediate. Get a good brand (ie burton, K2, whatever) but go for the boards suited to someone starting out which is usually the lower end stuff. Also if you can try them out.

Personally I like flow bindings. Worth checking out if you can to see if they suit you as some people hate them. I don't get on too well with ratchets and step-ins are a pain in the ass in snow. Flow is a good comprimise.
