I feel like an expert on this topic as I've dealt with insomnia for many years in my life. It can truly destroy your life if you let it. Here are my tips that have helped me overcome it (most of the time):

-Don't mess with prescription sleep pills. You get addicted and they don't give a good sleep.

-If you need help, take a small dose of melatonin. You don't want to use it all the time, but in those situations where you really need the help.

-Turn lights off at night. After 8pm, just don't use much lights in the house. Watch TV in the dark, etc. Artificial light fucks with chemicals in your body that helps you get to sleep.

-And my best tip, set your alarm for one time in the morning and never touch it. If you fall asleep at 4am, you wake up at 9am. If you fall asleep at 1am, you wake up at 9am. It will suck the first few weeks, but your body will eventually adjust and know that you get up at 9am every morning. You will naturally get tired and sleep at the proper time.
