Since 1985, gay, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) have accounted for 60.2% of all positive HIV test reports.
Before the year 2000 a steady decrease was seen in the proportion of positive HIV test reports attributed to MSM: from
74.2% before 1999 to around 48% in 1999. In 2000, the first increase since the 1980s was seen, the proportion of MSM
among adult male positive HIV test reports being 53.7%; in 2005, this proportion was 57.1%.
In 2005, Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) accounted for 45% of all positive HIV test reports in Canada.
Ontario
Between 1985 and 2004, men accounted for 86.9% of all positive HIV test reports. Of those, Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) account for 73.6% of HIV infections among men in Ontario.
