As I often say if a girl counters by saying that $150 is low, "trust me, it's worth the $50-$75 pay cut to work with someone significantly cooler than most photographers in this business. Will they feed you vegan cookies and have Tab to drink? I don't think so..."
I find I can get girls to work with me for that price because I am relaxed, mellow, and patient.
I also pitch sessions over hourly fees since there is no need to rush if it is not on the clock. I try to wrap within 3 hours, going at a leisurely pace.
I am in no rush... back when I started out I grossly overpaid, but built a quick rep as someone who was cool to work with and was not trying to get on anyone. I think I also get good word of mouth amongst models because I make them laugh and really try to carry a conversation on during... no awkward silence or weirdness.
Since week two in the biz, I have had a steady stream of girls coming to me who want to be in this business or work with me. However, I am not interested in shooting girls who make the rounds--it does me no good.
I meet some new girls online, meet some through friends, and occasionally will click with a girl looking to enter the modelling field.
I put in time on the phone with them, I hold their hand, and yes, I even keep my nice demeanor when they flake or re-schedule.
Yep - latenightgirl.com is my site.
Honestly, I cannot complain... it is doing better than I thought it ever would.
Right now, I am seeking out a handful of new girls to shoot. I know what my expected return is, so I am actually going to be raising my rates when I find the exact right girls.
I will most likely be aiming to do 5-6 hour shoots for $300-$400... figure with the right girl who isn't doing anything elsewhere, I can get all the content I need in one sitting and ride it out for a few months....
I myself am shocked how many girls will do a shoot for $150 or in some cases, no set fee (it depends on how much we get). I think it is far better to hold out for the girls who are in this to try it than those who want to make a quick buck.
