It's probably a fan, but possibly your hard drive or your dvd/cd-rom. With a little bit of help from google, some handy-work and a little bit of luck, you should be able to fix this yourself for a fraction of the price a shop would charge you. Unless it's still under warranty, which even then it will take awhile to get it back.
