First time I watched that show (by accident, it was something on after a show I wanted to watch) I was amused, pretty much until they pull in to a prayer circle to ask for god blessing on the hunt. Then I knew that these people were pretty much nut jobs and it was going to get stupid.

For the most part, the show is a religious bully pulpit, where "reformed" criminal Chapman can put out his brand of action, damnation, and redemption one small minded criminal at a time. Many of the early episodes were super preachy, but wrapped with enough action to keep the masses watching.

Then Larry King caught on to the bandwagon (as that old fart often does) and Dog suddenly went from guy with a show on cable to a cable-celeb. Other things happened including getting arrested himself, and his legend was born. That whole situation has been milked for every drop, including teary visits to larry king and a full hour near mocu-mentary about the whole thing. Dog was (is) the single largest franchise in A&E history, their original reality driven TV show that all their other attempts (such as King of Cars) are based around.
