Common thought led people to believe that intelligence is genetic. Almost all scientists agree that upbringing has a huge factor on intelligence, but so do your genes.
Whether it is 50/50 or not is debatable, but the idea of intelligence not being partly inherited would go against evolution itself.
In a way this seems like common sense.. If a smart guy bangs some big tit stripper, he shouldn't be too surprised if the kid doesn't turn out to be Baby Genius.
