in order for this to go mainstream the major TV manufactures will need to start integrating internet connections into the back of TV's in addition to the regular cable connection, or they could possibly use the regular coaxial cable just like for broadband internet.

In addition they would need to add a few more circuit boards, memory, and data storage within the tv so it can process the data recieved from the internet to stream live audio/video and broadcasts.

On the other end of the spectrum (the internet side) we are practically ready to start doing this! So the ball really lies in the tv manufacturers court right now.
