The money you put out to keep it registered since Y2K was YOUR overhead expense during that period and doesn't add to the resale value of the domain. Its non-refundable and comparable to rent on a property.
What advantage would the SEO guys say it gives you? Without traffic, reciprocal links, content or any sort of development (as you say) - its basically valueless except to someone who wants the specific domain name.
