Nope, my father never wanted to be management. He was asked many times and turned them down. He was a machinist, and still loves to work on things now that he is retired.
It used to be a good thing to work for the same company your whole career. Something to be proud of. You should be old enough to remember that.
He believed in a hard days work and to save and invest. Had nothing to do with needing the job, it had everything to do with pride. something you know nothing about.
