By the way, I do agree that the real problems with the 3rd world can only be solved through international politics.
Much of the poverty of the 3rd world is caused by the large trading barriers the rich countries of the world have set up to protect their own economies, while they still try to gain as much as possible from the 3rd world countries (cheap labor, natural resources). While these trading barriers are in place, no structural progress can be made.
One could say much of our prosperity is derived from their poverty.
Ofcourse, our primary concern should be changing that situation. However, meanwhile, millions are dying, and with relatively little effort we could save many of those lives.
