This is my concern with MMA. I hope it doesn't have to be this way, but even so, I'll still watch because fighting is entertaining. I've always felt that luck plays a huge role in MMA whereas in boxing only skill wins the day. One good smash to the face and it's all over in MMA. Maintaining superstar status also seems to be an issue right now for MMA fighters for this reason. Two superstars recently got demolished when they went from Pride to UFC, by "lesser" fighters and even a virtual unknown.

But maybe with more money and more popularity we'll see a new breed of fighters with world class ability that will change all of this, by bringing more consistency to the game.

It has some ways to go. There aren't many suburban kids much less street kids taking up martial arts lessons with the thought of pursuing a serious career with it.
