Essentially, you need to be able to be verified as the owner. I haven't checked recently, but 1&1 will allow you to change yourself to the Administrative Contact if you aren't already.
Send an email from your Administrative contact to eNom, or contact them first, and tell them you wish to move your domain to your own privately held ownership, and they will do so. Pay the $10 for another year with eNom if you have to, and transfer to your registrar of choice whenever; you can happily point it to ANY service you choose.

the key is to be able to prove you're the owner of this domain though, and it can be a lot of trouble to just be able to do that ! So stay safe guys and mae sure you fully ow your own domain !
