I believe what Sharpton, and the other protestors, want is for the charges to be commiserate with the crime. Nothing more, nothing less. That's what the whole uproar is about. That section of the country is notorious for things like this.
Sure, the guys did a bad thing by beating the kid up. On the other hand, the kid taunted the black guys with racial slurs and such not long after a black kid was beaten up because of his race as well as other racial issues that had the town on edge.
If the shoe was on the other foot and a black kid did the taunting he should have gotten his ass kicked also. I'm sure we can all agree on that.
So, with that in mind, add the fact that the kid was well enough to go on with his life later that night.
Now, do you think attempted murder fits the crime?
