Not me. No Way.
As a mute, you can always write, and use sign-language to express yourself.
You can pretty much be just as independent as anyone else... no one needs to guide you.
If Deaf, you'll need people to guide you through lectures... television... maybe driving... and it's possible that you might as well be mute, because you can barely (if at all) hear yourself talk - an important part of communicating through speech.
