Jacob's Ladder is a fantastic film...to this day a lot of people still don't quite get what it's about.
My own take is that the main character NEVER left Vietnam, and in the short moments he had before he died, he was able to live the life you see in the film.
The character like the chiropractor is a spirit guide so to speak, McCauley Culkin who played his dead son, is an angel coming to take him home...there's a line and I'm just paraphrasing here...where Aiello as the Chiropractor says that when you're fighting death, the ones to take you onto the after life seem like demons...it is only when he accepts death, do they become angels in the form of the son, who comforts him, then takes him up the "stairs."
I love movies that kind of trip on shit like this.
