Your daughter should take consolation in the fact that she also helps people every day in her job. As difficult as it may to have to contend with situations as the one she described, I'm sure she has some heartwarming stories as well.
As she gains experience, she will learn to cope with tragedy better, and thus be more and more able to help people that suffer such tragic losses.
At one point, I think I told you before, I wanted to be a social worker. I worked with severely physically and mentally handicapped children, many with terminal illnesses - it really changed my outlook on life.
Although I still felt great pain and sympathy for the kids and their families, I was happy knowing that I could provide them with some positive comfort and relief, if only by providing a caring shoulder for them to cry on.
