I have to be honest and say I didn't read the whole article, but the part I quoted above made me chuckle - I just love the way the author has fallen into the trap of quoting something as old as time as a brand-spanking new idea.
Because these companies clearly were just giving away usernames and passwords to their sites for free before they woke up and realised "Shit! We can make MONEY OUT OF THIS!"...
