She blames a lot of this on TV and the Internet, in that parents use these tools as babysitters. Instead of going out to play with the neighbors, kids are playing with their XBox, or in some Yahoo chatroom. This has resulted in a generation of people that have very little in the way of life experience, and social interaction beyond the online forum.

well I just read a study that this is a natural adjustment.
It is a huge stress factor to be forced to interact with people you don't have a relation with and/or people in which company you do not feel pleasant. (creepy people in the sub and so on).
The Human as well as the monkey is not meant to be in a group of more than 70 people TOP.
We get around 20k sense impressions a second and are only able to store around 100-200 of these impressions.
Due to some amazing filters we normally store the right information but if we are constantly tired because we have to store unwanted info (uncalled for conversations and such) we get very tired due to our brain working overtime.
Ipod's and the likes is just a natural way of a adjusting to a new environment and survive. This way you don't have to use all that energy of filtering what the brain sees as important info because you simply do not hear it.
I agree that a nice conversation in a bus or train or something can have a very positive effect but we have had way too many negative experiences so it's perfectly natural to try to avoid contact in a polite way.
It's a natural way to adjust and to prevent mental breakdown of stress according to the danish article.
Stress is coursed by many things of course but this is a bigger part than anticipated.
looking at a man in the city and a man on the country with the same job.
The man in the city will be much more stressed out because of getting too much data to filter.
From a guy with your "life experience" I think your point of view is very narrow minded and black and white.
Most Xbox games you play together and the online life is a part of the new world.
In severe cases I have no doubt that you can get socially handicapped if you never spend time with other people but in general no.
SonOfSam do lack some wisdom and self acknowledge but so do you it seems and you are 3 times his age.
