We hug both our son and daughter AND tell them "I love you" every day. Those are things I didn't get as a child and make a conscious effort to make sure my kids do. But I'm not sure that "Breaking the cycle" is as easy as that. Like I said, I have more of my Dad in me than I ever thought possible and unfortunately some of that could rub off on my son and he could find himself distant and unaffectionate one day. Seeing the person he is today, my wife and I HIGHLY doubt that, but who's to say what he'll be like in 10 or 20 years. Laying the groundwork is all we can do.
