Nah I don't think everyone thought the eagles were fucked.
They've won alot without McNabb in the past, I think he's about as overrated as they come. Coy Detmer did just as well as McNabb or Garcia in Philly.
The eagle's strength is their line, on both sides. They draft lineman on the first day every year, and they have alot of depth there, that makes life alot easier on all the other positions.
