from wiki
Techno is a form of electronic dance music that became prominent in Detroit, Michigan during the mid-1980s with influences from Chicago house, electro, New Wave, funk and futuristic fiction themes that were prevalent and relative to modern culture during the end of the Cold War in industrial America at that time. Following the initial success of Detroit techno as a musical culture ? at the very least on a regional level ? an expanded and related subset of genres in the 1990s emerged globally.
techno isn't played at all on the west coast anymore. well, unless frankie knuckles comes around, which he occasionally does.
i am not pointing this out to poke at you, i always try to educate people when possible on electronic music.

there is a HUGE techno scene in LA, we used to hit some underground 400-500 person parties...hell, Richard Devine plays out there ALL the time, he is one of the biggest techno producers in the world
techno is still a HUGE scene, but not in the clubs, it is very underground....the largest scenes are in detroit and chicago, and on up through canada...but there is pretty much a techno scene in every major city for sure
