If they had problems with DNS the other day, it must have been less then 5 minutes. Or with a Scope of domains not including mine.

Your server caches the dns queries, so unless you clear the cache every 5 minutes or your script somehow forces a dns lookup, you wouldn't be able to detect a dns downtime....
