Yeah, I agree... and I think 142 is as high as it goes.... which pretty much means it's bullshit right there.
I also agree with what you're saying on the adage/vocabulary front - as they're not testing solely on symbolic, applied, and abstract logic, but also on your experience in using modern standards in symbolic expression... kinda perverts the whole thing a touch.
For example, someone who had read Plato's
The Apology would know that Socrates pronounced that "wisest is he who knows he does not know," and have the hand-up in the related question...

Yeah... I've never placed much merit in what other people thought was "cool" and not.... well, at least since highschool.
Learn what a word means, and then use words to correctly express what you you mean to, I say... whether the word be newfangled or outmoded... if it's in the dictionary, it's fair game.
And "Bunk" (though technically, "informal") is a good word.
