They mentioned a number of times last night about it not being terrorism. At this point they realize that between the work already being done at the time and the fact that in 2005 it was deemed structurally unstable, it simply happened because they just never fixed it when it should've. In 1968 bridge building standards were changed. This bridge was made in '67 and never adapted. They didn't even have plans to correct this one until 2020.

They had someone on a show early this morning talking about how there's something like 217,000 bridges in this country and 32% of them have issues that need to be addressed. In total it would take a few trillion dollars to check them all and correct the problems. Something that kinda sits in the back of your mind next time you need to drive over one.
