Sure, earning money can be positive and indicate some business accumen, depending how he earned it.
One noticeable element is that people running what could be described as successful businesses keep their mouths shut. They do not discuss corp activity or their personal wealth - it's nobody else's business and the last hope in hell is introducing yourself expecting them to open up and allow a "brain picking" session.
Sure, there are others not in that league and they can either talk sense or spew utter rubbish. Everyone is different.
