Nope, it's pronounced "jiff." I had a teacher that said "jiff" all the time and it drove me crazy because I say "gif" as in gift. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and looked it up. I found a quote from the dude that invented (or helped invent) that particular format and he said it was pronounced "jiff." I think it sounds gay that way though.
