I manually sort mine by name all the time - but then ICQ always bumps anyone I talk to to the top of the list after that... so whoever's at the top of the list is the person I've most recently talked to.... until I manually sort the list again - which I'll do 3 to a half-dozen times in the typical day.

Never bothered me enough to investigate the way to change that setting, though... and I kinda like it set up like that.
