It is the responsibility of the owner to have their dog under control, no matter what type of dog it is. Some people just shouldn't have dogs.
What people need to understand is that dogs are individuals. So saying that a dog is bad or vicious because of it's breed is truly a racist statement. It's no different than saying a person is bad/violent or whatever because they are black or white or Hispanic or some other race, some people are just not bright enough to realize that. Just because 95% of all serial killers are American I don't think it would be appropriate to say that all Americans will be serial killers.
I know quite a few pit bulls and pretty much all of them are extremely affectionate and love to be around people, the media has done a great job in breeding ignorance in the masses in regards to pit bulls

I used to think that as well. I learned the facts and the science. I also know that you can not compare a human with an animal when making such an argument. They were breed for certain traits and still are if they are pure breeds.
Proper training may and ussually does prevent most accidents or acts of the dogs true nature. Yet very damn few dog owners properly train any type of dog be it those annoying ankle biters to golden retrievers.
