Behavioral modification, in addition to talk therapy is much more ideal. Unfortunately, we're always looking for a magic pill, a quick-fix solution. From what I understand, the S.O.P. for using anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication (when chosen as a primary treatment) is to stabilize the patient, and then gradually lower doses over time when they become more able to cope with whatever stressors are involved in their life. It sounds like your shrink did the opposite (upping the dosage over time).
