As far as muscle gain per week goes. If you do it naturally (no roids) and eat about 1-1.5 grams of Animal protein per pound of body weight per day you will gain about 1-3 pounds of muscle per week..until you plateau. Once you do plateau, you will need to increase the protein intake and change up your work out a little.
This is assuming you know how to work out you muscle groups properly.

besides the obvious fact that you can't gain 3 pounds of muscle a week.. if he was obese and eating 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight, he would be eating 3000-4000 calories just from protein alone, each day.
