I think you were right. I was able to hook up a newer version of the WRT54G I forgot I had stashed in a closet, and all seems to be working good now. The router I was originally using was a version 1.1, so it had to be old as the hills.
Would be nice if the things would just stop working completely, instead of only working half the time.
