Private Contractors Outnumber U.S. Forces In Iraq : coalition of the billing ...

fucking amazing !!!!

Quote:
Washington, D.C. (AHN)-The number of private contractors in Iraq now exceeds the number of U.S. combat troops, according to newly released government figures sure to spur debate in Congress as lawmakers, from both sides of the aisle, question the war.

More than 180,000 civilians - including Americans, foreigners and Iraqis - are working in Iraq under U.S. contracts, paid with U.S. tax dollars, according to State and Defense department figures obtained by the Los Angeles Times.

Including the recent troop surge, 160,000 soldiers and a few thousand civilian government employees are stationed in Iraq, the newspaper reports.

According to recently released Department of Labor figures, more than 1,000 private military contractors have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, a number based on insurance claims filed on behalf of contractors that had been killed. The figure includes both U.S. and foreign contractors.

The number of U.S.-paid contractors, higher than previously thought, is raising questions about the privatization of the four-year-old war, which has claimed the lives of at least 3,580 U.S. military personnel.

"These numbers are big," said Peter Singer, of Brookings Institution, who has written extensively on military contracting, according to The Times. "They illustrate better than anything that we went in without enough troops. This is not the coalition of the willing. It's the coalition of the billing."
