I think that when Bush let the assault weapons ban lapse, it was purely political. Just like the gay marriage amendment attempt. Just like all abortion discussions in politics, and flag burning, and on and on. All buzzwords for politics/elections.
In other words, if my neighbor wants to own an AK-47, MAKE him break a law to get it. Just like if a 10 year old wants a case of beer. Hey it happens, but why make it any easier?
