I shower when I get up, after I exercise and before I sleep.
The only time I would shower specifically before the gym is if I was exercising later in the day especially during summer because...
-It wakes you up as it gets the blood flowing, warms up the muscles a bit.
-As a courtesy to others who don't like to smell dried sweat.
-If I am swimming or using sauna/steam.
-It cleans your pores of dead skin, dried sweat etc enabling you to sweat easier and therefore keep cooler during a workout.
