I've been watching this case for a long time now, and the Supreme Court just made its ruling on it:

Important things to note (some of which aren't mentioned in the article).

1. The student was 18 years old, so wasn't a minor. IE no en loco parentis issues.
2. The student SKIPPED SCHOOL that day. He did not attend the event along with his teachers. He went on his own.
3. The student was on PUBLIC property, not school property.

Seriously a bad bad BAD BAD decision. But what the hell I guess I should have expected it, considering the court is now led by a George Bush clown posse.
