I mean doesn't it make sense that if there was a God he used a technique that was automatic and hands off then using a less efficient hands-on approach? He would certainly know the Earth's climate would constantly change and it makes sense he'd incorperate a way for animals and plants to adapt in order for them to survive.

That viewpoint is probably more popular than a lot of people think. It's not unreasonable that one can believe in both creationism and evolution and that they are part in parcel with one another.
Maybe it was just simpler to write "And on the 1st day God created the universe" rather than write an extra 900 page chapter on the actual 400 billion years he took to evolve it.
And really, if you're talking about a an ever-present omniscient being with no beginning and no end, maybe "a day" to him is like billions of years. :D
This is why I laugh at people who presume to step up with all the answers of what is and what isn't, when every damn one of our opinions is just that, opinion and speculation.
