I have no idea about their state laws, but here in Canada you could sue them both for malicious prosecution.

Essentially, it is a legal suit where you claim the police, crown attorney, etc. proceeded with a criminal case against a defendent despite being in possession - or knowledge - of material evidence that would, reasonably, lead to a dismissal of the charges or at least raise doubts about the guilt of the accused. Essentially
