Duplicate content is a serious consideration when trying to build SEO.

That's why scrapers often screw up the ranks of those they steal the content from (until they get nailed).

The algo which G uses is far more sophisticated than you may think.

Simple "fixing up the text" will probably get nailed for dup content.

If you licensed the text legally, I'm surprised your agreement does not limit you to a single use of that text, Unless it's marketing prose, if you're seriously trying to build SE traffic, put the content in one good place and make sure that there are links to it.

If you're getting text which is already shared by others, don't expect much. Sloppy seconds are just as cheap in SEO as they are in real life.
