It was watched by a lot of people, but not that many. The ratings released to day say it had 11.5 million viewers (probably a few more than that when you figure some tv's had more than just 1-2 viewers watching) which is the most ever for a pay cable show, but still way show of the 60 million needed to make up 20% of the country or the 105 million that voted in the last election.
But one thing is for sure they got a lot of bang for their buck because news of it is all over the place and everyone is talking about it.
