Yes,
his perspective being key here. Chase put the viewer in Tony's shoes, he made us feel what Tony feels every day, paranoia and fear. Focusing on his family made us all think one of them would get hit, it was gut wrenching. At that point we were seeing and feeling what ever Tony felt, and yes when it went black we saw and heard what Tony heard, nothing! He got hit.
