I'm not so sure about that. This case has generated a fair amount of publicity and any school willing to step up and give the kid a shot will get their fair share of publicity as well.
I believe the reason an appeal has been filed is so the kid will finally give up and sign the plea deal being offered. I have little doubt when he's finally released a lawsuit will be forthcoming against the state for not making the law retroactive and the DA's for not setting his sentence aside. They're protecting their own asses at this point imho. If the kid signs the plea deal, there's probably a provision stating he WON'T file any sort of lawsuit.
