right click on desktop - properties - settings - check "use this device as a primary monitor" .
Just make sure you select the laptop desktop as primary monitor.
I had the same problem and solved it this way .
If it doesnt work , just uncheck "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" and activate it when you want to hook up the second monitor again .
