Agreed. I doubt he made the decisions on his own. If you have money it's wise to consult with people who can help you manage it better. It's like setting up an account at the bank. The bank financial advisor may not be "smarter" than you (or they may be) but what's important is that they're specialists in that area with more experience so they know what accounts give you the best rates and possible investments to give you the best bang for your buck.
It's also why a wealthy person with an iota of common sense can virtually never become poor. Their money is working for them at all times generating more money, even when they're no longer actually working a job or selling goods.
