I have a dog then after the wife and kids wanted a kitten from their aunt, I fell in love with the cat, she's a great pet to have around.

I do still love my dog, but the nice thing about the cat is that you don't have to let them outside to go to the bathroom (HUGE plus) which is also nice when you want to go somewhere for a few days without bringing them to a kennel like with a dog, they don't bug you for attention all the time, and you don't have to put up with their barking.

As far as negatives for owning a cat, I guess you could have bad luck and get one that scratches your furniture, but for me, our cat is 9 months old and hasn't damaged anything yet (knock on wood).

I do love my dog, but when it comes down to maintinance, a cat is MUCH easier to manage.
