he's right, over the past week I've noticed several periods where the board has again been bogged down to slower than a crawl. I've submitted posts only to be hung up for 2-3 minutes or more at a time, only to end up with a dead page.

You nailed it. Sometimes I post a thread and its so slow I say fuck it and close the browser and leave.
No doubt there are many less threads and visitors are staying not as long because of this.
