however i don't think the second statement is true because he used the invisiblity when he got killed by skylar and he regenerated from death after he was killed.
if he had to switch powers he would not have been able to come back to life in that episode

Actually, Peter was killed while he was invisible. Sylar used telekinesis to throw a bunch of glass shards in the air, one of which embedded in the back of Peter's head, in the area of the brain that controls his powers. The cheerleader also had a tree branch go through the same part of her head... but in both cases, as soon as it was removed, they were able to heal themselves. It's also why Peter asks Claire to shoot him "In the back of the head... you know the spot."
