Searching Google for "the amero" brings up a collection of wing-nuts and cranks that would do the unibomber proud. Basically, they took a joint statement from a 2005 meeting between the US, Canada, and Mexico, and extended it exponentially to get to a common currency.
Since that meeting, 2 of the three heads of state have changed, and given another 18 months, the third one will thankfully be gone.
You are much more likely to see the mexican peso hard pegging in value to the US dollar than you are to see an actual common currency. Canadians wouldn't go for it.
