I hope this isn't too basic, but I had that problem, and I don't think its a windows explorer problem, I think it's a virtual memory problem.
Dump as many temporary file as you can, free up some space, check to see if you need a defrag, and reboot.

If you have done all of that and that was a grade school answer, my apologies, but it worked for me.


..and after that, send gates a pissed off email.
