That's just an indirect way of measuring "love". They've also measured bodily reactions for fear and excitement. The same stimuli can have the same physiological affects in two different people but one person's mind interprets it as fun and exciting while another interprets it as terrifying and scary. The only way we know how the subject has interpreted the stimuli is by asking them.
